Algonquin Park

On the last weekend of September, I went on a wonderful trip to Huntsville and to the Algonquin Provincial Park. Huntsville is located in the Muskoka District Municipality, which is famous for its lakes, cottages and cranberry farms.
It was a 4-hours drive from Guelph to the Tally-Ho Inn Cottages in Huntsville which we did with a rental car from enterprise booked via orbitz.com. It was only C$ 140 for the weekend (divided by 5 persons in the car, incl. insurance, excl. gas). An additional driver costs about C$ 10/ day and drivers under the age of 25 also have to pay an additional fee. We had a very comfy and spacious jeep; smaller cars are even cheaper than C$ 140/ weekend.
When we arrived on Friday evening, we went to the city of Huntsville and had a nice dinner at “The Mill on Main”. We sat at the heated patio outside which was great in the beginning, but after a while we felt like grilled chicken as it was so hot :-D At night, Thomas lit a fire in the fireplace in one of our cottages and we spent a cozy evening with playing “Werewolf” and listening to the sound of the fire.
Saturday morning we drove to Algonquin Park (about 25 km from the Tally-Ho Inn). First, only one half of the group started hiking as the others had broken the rearview mirror of their car and went to enterprise branch in Huntsville to have it fixed and resolve the issue. The company just taped it to the ceiling which was actually not successful at all :-D
The entrance to the park area is C$ 17 per car and per day. We did three trails that day: The Peck Lake trail (1.9 km), the Bat Lake trail (5.6 km) and the Lookout trail (1.9 km). Although it wasn’t that much of a distance, it was really exhausting as it went up and down and over roots and stones. Besides, it took us much time because we stopped frequently to take photos of the beautiful fall foliage, the lakes and our awesome crew. It felt so good to be in such an amazing open countryside! That day I admired the most beautiful fall foliage I've ever seen <3
After dinner at “Boston Pizza” we all felt very tired and ended the evening with watching TV and drinking sangria before going to bed.
The next morning, we got up early to go canoeing and paddle boating on the lake at our cottages before leaving Huntsville. Unfortunately, Ida’s and my paddle boat had a small leak so that we didn’t dare to go as far as the others in their canoes.
On our way back home, we visited the Johnston's Cranberry Marsh & Muskoka Lakes Winery where Mirjam and Julia were dancing in the cranberries and enjoyed it like children (so cute!), whereas Thomas, Florian and Judith made a tour across the farm and Ano, Ida, Franziska, Nicole and me explored it by foot and found a hidden lake.
Thank you so much for a wonderful weekend I won’t forget in a long time @Julia, Franziska, Nicole, Ano, Thomas, Florian, Judith, Ida and Mirjam!
